Liz Tells Frank What Happened In “Dark Angel” LIVE!

Dear Frank,

51sGkb7wjILA few weeks ago, you and I and some other awesome people got together so I could tell you what happened in the 2000-2002 series “Dark Angel,” executive produced by James Cameron.

We learned a lot about pagers, Canadian science fiction, Ron Perlman, the not-too-distant future and safe sex. We unfortunately did not learn why the show was called “Dark Angel,” but really, there’s no actual answer for that.

It was a good time, and I have done my best to recapture the magic via the below video, which combines an audio recording from the evening plus my Keynote presentation dissecting this seminal moment in pop culture history — or, as everyone else likes to refer to it, “Wait, you mean NOT the show with Eliza Dushku?”

Video here:

And you can also listen to the audio on its own via Soundcloud:

This was a labor of love. And by a labor of love, I mean a labor of “holy shit, I totally used to know how Final Cut worked, what the fuck are you doing to me Final Cut Final Cut you are being a total asshole right now PLEASE START WORKING RIGHT FINAL CUT.”

(Okay, it wasn’t that bad.)

(Compressor, on the other hand….)

(Never mind. It’s over now. I’m in a safe place.)

Frank, I’m sure you’ll join me in offering huge thanks to the following people:

  • Not only did Laurel Vail win 1st prize during the post-recording contest, but she also won our hearts with her brilliant introduction for the evening. Seriously, for fuck’s sake Laurel. WAY TO SET THE BAR.
  • Rick Castaneda, Asa Shumskas-Tait, Doug Spice and the interns of Psychic Bunny, for hosting and facilitating this event. EXTRA-SPECIAL-HUGE-THANKS/APOLOGIES-FOR-NOT-MENTIONING-YOUR-NAME-DURING-THE-FINAL-CREDITS to Jesse Vigil, who was also instrumental and super-helpful.
  • Our lovely audience for laughing and ringing our bell: Aimee Jones, Jeff Stone, Jason Merrell, Jourdan Schinnerer, Andreanna Ditton, Mike D’Alonzo, Kim Repecka, Cody Pearce, David Nett, Christy Black, Megan Westerby, and Christine Geiger.

Do you want to be cool like them? Well, the next Liz Tells Frank: Live is JUST A FEW WEEKS AWAY. Details here!

Oh, and of course a huge thanks to you, Frank. As always.

Love,
Liz
